About
Alice Mawdsley is a travelling illustrator and published author from the UK. Her art studio is based in London, but she spends a lot of her time living abroad. Her work focuses on reportage illustration - a sophisticated intersection of art and investigative journalism - exploring different cultures, everyday life and food.
Specialising in immersive on-location residencies, you will usually find Alice drawing on location; capturing real moments as they unfold – celebrating community and the similarities that connect us all.
Alice is the author and illustrator of ‘The Travelling Sketcher: City’, commissioned by Penguin Random House (publishing June 2026). Her practice has been recognised by the World Illustration Awards, reflecting a career built on high-level commissions across publishing, reportage, visual journalism, advertising, commercial and editorial projects. From clothing and product illustration to books and global prints, Alice specialises in creating timeless visual narratives.
Alongside her illustration projects, Alice shares the immersive process of “drawing the world” with a dedicated community of over 86,000 travel and art enthusiasts on her Instagram. Through her drawing workshops, Alice has inspired over 700 students globally to get out and be creative.
As a travelling illustrator living with rare and chronic health conditions, illustration has become much more than a profession for Alice. Through her own drawing experiences, she has seen how art connects us, shifts our perspective and helps us find beauty in the smallest moments.
Through sharing her illustrations and teaching, Alice hopes to encourage more people to get out and be creative.
'I would love to inspire others to see the power in art and to continue doing the things they enjoy, no matter their obstacles.'
